Rabo Frontier Ventures invests in Agtech Company ProducePay

Freshplaza reports that Rabo Frontier Ventures, Rabobank’s strategic investment arm has invested in LA based ProducePay.

Rabo has invested behind Anterra Capital, a leading Food and AgTech VC in a series B funding round f $14m. ProducePay’s mission is to help farmers produce sustainably, and has created a means of securitizing perishable produce as a financial asset through the use of technology. ProducePay thus frees up valuable access to financing for farmers in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Honduras and Chile for produce being sold in the United States. ProducePay’s service helps farmers connect to retailers in a more seamless, transparent engagement reducing overall risk through the food value chain.

In addressing Africa’s ever increasing challenge of reducing imports dependency and becoming food independent – these innovative business solutions need to be embraced by retailers supporting African production sources to unlock valuable financing which can be deployed in production expansion. While quality infrastructure is often required to facilitate such securitization solutions there are often sub scale operations offering the quality service, just lacking the scale.
